Golden Pal to retire after BC Turf Sprint, stand at Coolmore's Ashford Stud

Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint favorite Golden Pal will retire to Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky following that Nov. 5 race at Keeneland, the farm confirmed Wednesday.
Trainer Wesley Ward had already indicated that Turf Sprint was likely to be the colt’s swan song.
Golden Pal is undefeated in North American stakes company, with his eight starts at that level including victories in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Keeneland and 2021 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar.
Florida-born Golden Pal, by Ashford resident Uncle Mo and out of graded stakes winner Lady Shipman, was campaigned by his breeder, Randall Lowe, through his 2-year-old campaign before the Coolmore group bought him in June 2021, continuing its investment in Uncle Mo’s promising line.
“We’ve followed Golden Pal’s career closely and he’s a very welcome addition to our roster,” Ashford’s Dermot Ryan said in a release. “He has speed to burn, and, like many of those by Uncle Mo, he’s a very good-looking horse.
“I don’t think any horse has come close to beating him here in the U.S. since he broke his maiden in the Skidmore Stakes, and Uncle Mo has made a very good start as a sire of sires, so it’s all good news!”
