Golden Mischief has no immediate plans after Saylorville Stakes win

After dueling and fading while racing on the inside in the Grade 3 Winning Colors Stakes last out, Golden Mischief got a comfortable outside trip and easily won the $100,000 Saylorville Stakes on Thursday night at Prairie Meadows. She ran six furlongs in 1:09.49 and got a 94 Beyer Speed Figure, the second-highest of her career.
“I think she prefers being outside horses,” said trainer Brad Cox. “She’s a really nice filly.”
The Honorable Miss at Saratoga comes back too quickly for Golden Mischief, Cox said, and the Ballerina there is a seven-furlong race that might push Golden Mischief’s distance limits. So, Cox will have to sit down and map out a summer campaign for Golden Mischief.
“We’ll let her recover from this one and see what’s out there,” he said.
Cox had no obvious excuse for Sassy Sienna’s seventh-place finish Thursday night as the 9-5 favorite in the Iowa Oaks. “I can’t explain it other than it was a carbon copy of her Remington race, when I expected her to run well,” said Cox. “Maybe she doesn’t handle shipping and racing at night.”
◗ Trainer Rodolphe Brisset said Friday that Talk Veuve to Me, most recently second to Monomoy Girl in the Grade 1 Acorn at Belmont, will start July 14 at Indiana Grand in the Indiana Oaks. Talk Veuve to Me figures to be favored in the race, which might also draw Rayya from California.
The field for the Indiana Derby at Indiana Grand remained in flux as of Friday. Track racing officials were hoping Ohio Derby runner-up Lone Sailor would run back in the Indiana Derby, also on July 14, but trainer Tom Amoss called that proposition “doubtful” in a text message Friday.
