Golden Lad sire of top two in Fasig-Tipton Midlantic winter mixed sale

Golden Lad, who has locked up Maryland's leading freshman sire title, was responsible for the top two prices in a strong edition of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic winter mixed sale. His stakes-winning son Laddie Liam sold for a sale-record $450,000 to DJ Stable, while fellow juvenile Mine Not Mine sold for $210,000 to Charles Zacney. Both juveniles were consigned by Northview Stallion Station, which stands Golden Lad, as agent for the dispersal of Joseph Besecker.
Golden Lad, by Medaglia d’Oro, won 8 of 15 starts, all while racing as a homebred for Robsham Stables. His career was highlighted by victories in the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn and the Grade 3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap, as well as the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn and the Mountainview Handicap at Penn National.
Golden Lad was represented by 10 winners from 18 starters through Dec. 10 for earnings of $655,826. He easily leads Maryland’s freshman sire class by both winners and earnings. Bourbon Courage, also from 18 starters, has six winners for earnings of $500,099. In a strong freshman sire class, Golden Lad is in the top 20 nationally and is second among all freshmen standing outside of Kentucky to Florida’s Khozan, who has a bankroll of $1,129,822.
Golden Lad’s top earner is Hello Beautiful, who has not missed the board in her six starts. She has posted dominant back-to-back stakes victories, winning the Maryland Million Lassie by 3 3/4 lengths and the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship by 11 3/4 lengths.
Mine Not Mine won his debut at Laurel before finishing fourth in the Maryland Juvenile Futurity behind Laddie Liam. The colt is out of the Grade 2-winning Unbridled mare Belterra, making him a half-brother to stakes winner Taketheodds. He also is a half-brother to Sheave, dam of Zacney’s Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia.
Golden Lad, from a productive family for Robsham Stables, is out of stakes winner Broadway Gold, making him a half-brother to Grade 2 winner and Kentucky Oaks runner-up Broadway’s Alibi and Grade 1-placed stakes winner R Gypsy Gold. It is the extended family of Eclipse Award champion Eliza, Grade 1 winner and solid young sire Dialed In, and Australian Group 1 winner Foxplay.
