Golden Gate Fields will run a seven-race program on Friday after failing to draw sufficient entries on two Fridays in the last month. Racing was not held on April 19 and May 3 because of a lack of race-ready horses. The track’s horse population has decreased in recent months in advance of the permanent closure of Golden Gate Fields on June 9. Friday’s program drew 43 entrants. This summer and early fall, the Northern California fair circuit will have its customary meetings at Pleasanton, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Ferndale, and Fresno before a scheduled autumn meeting at Pleasanton beginning in October to replace previous meetings held at that time of year at Golden Gate Fields. Supporters are planning to conduct a winter meeting at Pleasanton in early 2025. The Friday program includes a maiden race for 2-year-olds at 4 1/2 furlongs, the first race for juveniles in Northern California this year. The race drew a field of six, including the filly Sensational Z Z, who is by Om. Sensational Z Z will be ridden by leading jockey Assael Espinoza for trainer Manny Badilla. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
