Golden Gate reports 19 percent increase in fall meet handle
Golden Gate Fields reported a 19 percent gain in all-sources handle at its fall meet compared to last year’s fall meet. The 30-day fall meet ended on Sunday.
This is the second consecutive year of double-digit handle growth during the fall meet at the Albany, Calif., racetrack, according to track reports, and follows gains at this year’s summer and winter-spring meets.
Betting at the fall meet, boosted by increases in out-of-state and off-track betting, hit $99.7 million this year, compared to $83.6 million last year, according to a track release.
Jonathon Wong led the Golden Gate trainer standings for the third meet in a row, with 28 wins. Jerry Hollendorfer finished second with 15 wins. William Antongeorgi III edged Abel Cedillo, 36-35, in the jockey race. The title was Antongeorgi’s first at Golden Gate.
The Golden Gate Fields winter-spring meet begins on Dec. 26 and runs through June 9, 2019.
