Look Quickly, Golden Gate Debutante
Vassar Photography Look Quickly and jockey Russell Baze are clear coming to the wire in the Golden Gate Debutante.

Look Quickly improved her record to 4 for 4 while scoring her second career stakes victory in the $58,700 Golden Gate Debutante on Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

A Run Away and Hide filly, Look Quickly sat just outside pacesetting Rever de Vous in the six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies. As the field turned for home, she quickly assumed command and was never seriously challenged through the stretch.

Look Quickly defeated fast-finishing Miss Success by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:10.09. Sergeant O’Rourke was another length pack in third with Rever de Vous fading to fourth and last in the field. Both Swiss Lake Yodeler and Stunning Drama were scratched.

Sergeant O’Rourke, who was in the outside post after the scratches, was expected to go to the lead but broke poorly.

“When [Sergeant O’Rourke] didn’t break, it messed with everyone’s plans,” said winning jockey Russell Baze.

Sergeant O’Rourke’s jockey Dennis Carr said, “Our whole race was done at the start. There is no speed in the race, you’re on a speed horse, and they spring the gate when you’re nowhere near ready.”

Baze said he was confident on the turn when jockey Juan Hernandez asked Rever de Vous to run and she wasn’t responding.

“I thought, ‘Oh, I’ve got this one,’ because my horse was just coming up under the bit. I just wanted to move ahead of Miss Success because I knew she’d be coming.”

Bred, owned and trained by Bill Morey Jr., Look Quickly earned $39,700 to increase her bankroll to $125,580. She won the Juan Gonzalez in her second career start at Pleasanton this summer. She paid $2.80 to win.
