Evin Roman, one of the leading jockeys in Northern California, has been sidelined with a wrist injury sustained in a spill on Nov. 18 that will keep him from riding until late December. Roman was unseated from 7-5 favorite Top Hat Tigress when the 2-year-old filly clipped heels with a rival in early stretch. The injury did not require surgery, but Roman will wear a cast until mid-December, according to his agent, Leo Rodriguez. Roman, 24, has traveled to Puerto Rico to visit family while recuperating, Rodriguez said. The jockey is scheduled to visit with doctors late this month for an evaluation. :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic. His personal best of 175 wins was set in 2021. Earlier this year, Roman was the leading rider at the Golden Gate winter-spring meeting, which ended in June. He was first in the standings at the autumn meeting when he was injured. Roman finished third in the standings at the track’s six-week meeting in late summer and early fall. The Golden Gate Fields meeting runs through Dec. 11 and the winter-spring meeting starts on Dec. 26. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
