Golden Gate Fields: Trickey Trevor cruises

Trickey Trevor ($4.80) took the lead out of the gate and proceeded to dominate the $100,000 Forty Niner Handicap at Golden Gate Fields on Friday.

What looked to be a speed-laden race changed complexion with the race-day scratches of Bilo and Saint Buddy after overnight rain turned the track to wet-fast.

"Speed is always dangerous," said winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Trickey Trevor, under Russell Baze, had a one-length lead to the quarter pole in the 1 1/16-mile race. He opened a 3 1/2-length advantage into the stretch and coasted home, beating Melanyhasthepapers by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:41.32. My Creed rallied from last to be third. Hollendorfer's second entry, Ace Blue, raced wide and tired in his comeback while finishing fourth.
