Golden Gate Fields canceled racing on Sunday for the second consecutive day following more than 24 hours of heavy rainfall in the San Francisco-Oakland area.
With dry conditions forecast for Sunday, the track intends to race on Monday, according to general manager David Duggan.
Areas near the track recorded approximately five inches of rain from early Friday to midnight on Saturday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s website.

The track canceled Saturday’s program before dawn that day and Sunday’s program on Saturday afternoon.
Duggan said late Saturday afternoon that the synthetic main track at Golden Gate Fields had been inundated with rain. The track does not use its turf course during winter months.
“It’s absolutely ferocious,” Duggan said on Saturday afternoon.
The rain approached record levels for a single day in some regions of the Bay Area. Downtown San Francisco recorded 5.46 inches of rain from midnight to 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to published reports.
