Golden Damsel romps in Bouwerie

ELMONT, N.Y. - Golden Damsel, a 3-year-old daughter of Gold Token, romped to a 9 3/4-length victory in Sunday's $108,700 Bouwerie Stakes for statebred fillies before 8,317 at Belmont Park.

The Name Was Gone, a longshot, rallied to get second in the Bouwerie by a neck over 9-5 favorite and pacesetter Travelator.

Under Jerry Bailey, Golden Damsel ($6.50) stalked Travelator through an opening quarter-mile of 23.07 seconds and a half run in 45.65. Turning for home, Golden Damsel took command and drew clear under a hand ride from Bailey. Golden Damsel covered the seven furlongs in 1:22.81.

Frank Amonte Jr., assistant to trainer Gary Contessa, said Golden Damsel would most likely be pointed to the $250,000 Statue of Liberty Division of the New York Stallion Stakes June 8. That race is run at 1 1/16 miles.
