Golden Boi to miss Golden State Million Futurity

Golden Boi, the winner of the $1.12 million Ed Burke Million Futurity in June, will miss the $1.1 million Golden State Million Futurity at Los Alamitos on Oct. 31 after being hospitalized in recent days with colitis, trainer Valentin Zamudio said Sunday.
Zamudio said Golden Boi has shown improvement over the weekend and that the next week is vital. When Golden Boi was diagnosed, the colt had diarrhea, a common symptom of colitis, Zamudio said.
“Right now, the prognosis is okay,” Zamudio said.
Golden Boi would have been favored in the Golden State Million, the second of the track’s three seven-figure futurities. Golden Boi set the fastest qualifying time of 19.75 seconds in 400-yard time trials on Oct. 10.
Owned by North Carolina restauranteur Mauricio Montano and his extended family, Golden Boi has won 4 of 6 starts and earned $467,225.
Without Golden Boi, the Burke field is led by Just a Kool Boy, who won a division of the trials in 19.80 seconds to set the second-fastest qualifying time.
