HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Gold Sweep, who had been knocking on the door in the sprint ranks this meet at Oaklawn Park, came away with a stakes win Friday when he darted to a 3 1/4-length victory over Booth in the $200,000 Lake Hamilton. It was another half-length back in third to Tejano Twist. The Lake Hamilton was for 4-year-olds and up over six furlongs. It shared a card with the $150,000 Bachelor for 3-year-olds, which was won by Two Seven O. The races came on the penultimate card of the meet. Oaklawn wraps up its season Saturday with a 13-race card featuring the $200,000 Lake Ouachita and $200,000 Arkansas Breeders’ Championship. Gold Sweep ($28) began his Oaklawn meet with a dead-heat win in a December allowance, then twice ran third to Tejano Twist in local sprint races, including the Grade 3 Whitmore. Gold Sweep broke running on Friday, and raced just off Hola Joey and Booth as Hola Joey covered the opening quarter-mile in 21.83 seconds. From there, Booth took over through a half-mile in 44.89. Gold Sweep advanced three-wide on the turn and hooked up with Booth into the stretch. The pair battled and Gold Sweep was able to get past Booth nearing the eighth pole and went on to win with authority. He covered the distance on a fast track in 1:09.03. Gold Sweep is a son of Speightstown who has now won 5 of 22 starts. The first place check of $108,000 on Friday pushed his earnings to $452,454. Bachelor Two Seven O won his fourth consecutive race in the Bachelor, battling for a neck victory over Stradale. It was another two lengths back in third to Oscar’s Hope. The Bachelor was run over six furlongs. Two Seven O ($15.60) stalked the pace in fourth as Dirty Rich zipped through the opening quarter in 21.80 seconds. Oscar’s Hope, who had been prompting the pace, moved to the fore soon afterward, and following a half-mile in 44.93 seconds, he was joined by Two Seven O. The pair raced into the stretch together. As Two Seven O worked to get past Oscar’s Hope on his inside, he was confronted by Stradale on his outside. Two Seven O and Stradale went at it to the wire, making contact in the late stages. Two Seven O covered the distance in 1:09.08. Following the race, the rider of Stradale claimed foul against the winner, but no change was made to the order of finish. Edwin Gonzalez was aboard Two Seven O for trainer David Fawkes. Two Seven O is a son of Dialed In who began his streak in November with a maiden win at Churchill Downs. He's won all three of his starts at the meet this season at Oaklawn. Two Seven O races for Aaron Haberman, Victoria Haberman, and Matthew Scull.
