Gold Standard eyes Comely

Gold Standard made an impression in her stakes debut Sunday in the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks, when she finished second by a half-length to Lady Apple. Gold Standard dueled between horses for much of the race, and was coming back along the rail in the late stages. She had won three straight races leading up to the Remington Oaks.
“I really think she’s got a big future,” trainer Brad Cox said. “She ran a fantastic race. It’s a big jump up in class from a two-other-than to a Grade 3. It was a big effort – a huge race for her. She was beaten by a proven, experienced multiple graded stakes winner. There’s no shame in that.”
Cox said Gold Standard could make her next start in the Comely at Aqueduct, usually run in November.
“We’ll give her plenty of time to recover from this one,” he said.
Gold Standard, who brought $1.2 million at auction, races for Stonestreet Stables and LNJ Foxwoods.
