Going Global has no problem with Providencia's distance

ARCADIA, Calif. - It has taken Going Global seven weeks to compile an unbeaten record in three turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita. The wins have come at a variety of distances, suggesting Going Global could have a diverse season in turf stakes.
An Irish-bred, Going Global won the Grade 3 Sweet Life Stakes at six furlongs in her American debut on Feb. 14 and followed on March 6 with a win in the $100,500 China Doll Stakes at a mile. On Saturday, Going Global won the longest race of her career in the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes at 1 1/8 miles.
Going Global raced closer to the front than she had in her first two starts at Santa Anita, chasing a slow pace under jockey Flavien Prat. Going Global won the Providencia by a neck over Closing Remarks.

“We went slow and she traveled well,” Prat said.
Going Global ($3.40) was timed in 1:48.50 and got a 90 Beyer Speed Figure.
“It has just kind of been one race after another to assess how far she’d go,” trainer Phil D’Amato said. “I had a good feeling that this race was well within her reach.”
Going Global led by a length with a furlong remaining and was given a test by Closing Remarks through the final sixteenth. The loss did not discourage jockey Umberto Rispoli.
“I’m pleased with her,” Rispoli said. “She deserves to win a graded stakes.”
Closing Remarks won the $201,000 California Cup Oaks at a mile on turf for statebred fillies in January and was second in the China Doll Stakes.
In the Providencia, Closing Remarks (4-1) finished 3 1/4 lengths in front of 8-1 Sensible Cat, who won the Soviet Problem Stakes for statebred 2-year-old fillies at a mile on dirt at Los Alamitos in December.
Sensible Cat held an early lead, through fractions of 24.38 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 49 for a half-mile, but could not hold off Going Global, who was fourth for the first six furlongs. Carla Gaines trains Closing Remarks and Sensible Cat.
Ivy League finished fourth, followed by Quatroelle, Royal Address, and Derby Quest.
Going Global, by the Acclamation stallion Mehmas, has won 4 of 7 starts and has earned $188,792. She had one victory in four starts in Ireland last year, a handicap against males on the all-weather track at seven furlongs at Dundalk Racecourse in November.
Since her arrival in the United States over the winter, Going Global has raced for the partnership of CYBT, Michael Dubb, Saul Gevertz, Michael Nentwig, and Ray Pagano.
