Going for a 4-peat

DRF Staff|Oct 18, 2001

Creaseinherjeans, seeking her fourth victory in a row, will carry high weight of 122 pounds for Saturday's $50,000-added Charles H. Russell Handicap. She will be spotting her six rivals from five to eight pounds in the six-furlong dash for fillies and mares. The Russell Cap will be the ninth race on a 10-race program.

Creaseinherjeans is undefeated this year in three starts and should be a strong betting choice to continue that string. She made her 2001 debut for trainer Terry Knight in allowance company at Pleasanton. She ran six furlongs in l:09.65 in that allowance race and won by four lengths.

Creaseinherjeans then traveled to Del Mar where she rallied from just off the pace on Aug 18 to defeat a field of allowance performers by a length. Last out in the Bangles and Beads Handicap at Pomona she again rallied from off the pace and was a length the best for her third straight triumph. Creaseinherjeans has won four of her eight starts thus far in her career. Leading rider Russell Baze will be aboard Saturday.

Sea Of Ice is making her comeback in the Russell Cap. She has been idle since a fifth-place finish in the Cats Cradle Handicap last November at Hollywood Park. Sea Of Ice has won five of her 15 starts for earnings of over $225,000.

Sea Of Ice has been training steadily at Hollywood Park and is a threat off her best race. She won a stakes last year at Hollywood Park, rallying from off the pace for a neck decision in the Valkyr Handicap.

Island Jubilee and Miss Grimsby are next in the weight assignments and are capable of surprising. Island Jubilee comes off a winning effort here on Oct. 4. She led throughout that six panel allowance test to defeat Time For Romance. Island Jubilee has four victories in only six trips to the post thus far this season for trainer Chuck Jenda.

Miss Grimsby finished fifth last out but was beaten only three lengths as the favorite in the Convenience Handicap in June at Hollywood. In her previous start Miss Grimsby ran strongly over the local oval to finish second beaten just a length by Slewsbox in the Woodside Handicap at six furlongs.

Miss Grimsby gained her lone victory this season in April in an allowance race at Santa Anita. She was also a game second earlier in allowance company at Santa Anita.

Smart Start has been on the board in all six of her starts thus far in her career and will be making her first try in stakes company on Saturday.
