Godolphin champion Pinatubo retired to Dalham Hall Stud
Pinatubo, the European champion 2-year-old male of 2019, has been retired and will be sent to stud in England in 2021, according to a statement released Friday by Godolphin Racing.
Pinatubo, who was trained by Charlie Appleby, won 7 of 10 starts and was unbeaten in six races in 2019, including a nine-length win in the Group 1 National Stakes at seven furlongs at the Curragh in Ireland last September, and a two-length win in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at the same distance at Newmarket Racecourse in England last October.
By the late stallion Shamardal, Pinatubo will stand at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, England.

This year, Pinatubo had four starts, all in Group 1 races. Pinatubo was third as the odds-on favorite in the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on June 6 and second two weeks later in the St. James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Pinatubo’s lone win this year occurred in the Prix Jean Prat for 3-year-olds at a mile at Deauville Racecourse in France in July. He was second in his debut against older horses in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp at a mile in Paris on Sept. 6, losing by 1 3/4 lengths to Persian King.
Pinatubo is out of Lava Flow, a 10-year-old mare by Dalakahani. Lava Flow was a listed stakes at 1 3/8 miles at Longchamp Racecourse in 2013, the highlight of a seven-race career.
