HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Though Gloria’s Princess recorded both of her wins on the front end, she showed a new dimension when running a respectable third in an allowance race here last month, her first start off a nine-month layoff. With expected improvement second off the bench and the likelihood of a solid pace in front of her, Gloria’s Princess could be the right one when she runs in a competitive group of eight in Friday’s second-level allowance/optional $62,500 claiming feature scheduled for one mile on turf at Gulfstream Park. “She can sit back if we need her to,” trainer Brendan Walsh said. “Last year, she happened to be on the front end a lot.” In her Dec. 20 race here, Gloria’s Princess had an inside trip, tipped out three wide in the stretch and was beaten three lengths by longshot winner Infinite Diamond. Gloria’s Princess, a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Harvey’s Lil Goil, was caught late for second by Random Harvest. “I thought she ran well, very pleased with her and she’s done well since,” Walsh said. “Her works have been good so she should be in with a shot.” Frankie Dettori rides Gloria’s Princess from post 8. :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! Friday, Life’s an Audible makes the second start of her 4-year-old season. She came off a nine-month layoff with an uninspiring ninth-place finish in the Tropical Park Oaks on Dec. 14. However, Life’s an Audible has a few things in her favor. She is dropping into allowance company after six straight starts in stakes, which include a neck victory in the Sweetest Chant here last February. Life’s an Audible is getting Lasix for the first time and should get a proper pace in which to close. John Velazquez rides for Todd Pletcher. New Ginya, in her second start following a 13-month layoff, won an open first-level allowance here on Nov. 30 for trainer Christophe Clement. “She got a great ride from [Joe] Bravo, showed an explosive turn of foot. She’s been training well,” Clement said. “Stakes options were not great so we went back in another allowance.” The front-runners in the field include Nineteenamendment, Risk Threshold, and potentially Lifelovenlaughter. Nineteenamendment and Lifelovenlaughter are both trained by Mike Trombetta. Nineteenamendment is coming off a front-running win here on Nov. 30. She has the rail and Reylu Gutierrez. Lifenlovenlaughter did a speed and fade when fifth in the same race that Gloria’s Princess finished third in last out. Risk Threshold, trained by Chad Brown, is making her first start since she finished third in the Autumn Days Stakes going six furlongs at Aqueduct on Nov. 8. Both of her career wins have come in front-running fashion at six furlongs. Trainer Bill Mott has the uncoupled entry of Uphill Dance and Bedazzle ’Em. Uphill Dance finished sixth in a second-level allowance at Churchill Downs on Nov. 28 while trying to rally into a modest early pace. Bedazzle ’Em is stretching out from six furlongs on dirt to a mile on turf in her first start in three months. Two starts back, on Aug. 29, Bedazzle ’Em showed a strong late kick to win a 6 1/2-furlong allowance at Kentucky Downs. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
