Global Campaign colt tops final session of OBS winter mixed sale

An $80,000 colt from the first crop of Global Campaign led the day's activity as the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s winter mixed sale concluded its two-session run on Wednesday.
OBS reported that 377 horses were sold for a total gross of $6,357,700. At last year's two-session sale, 414 horses brought $6,646,600.
The winter sale's average price finished at $16,864, ticking up 5 percent from $16,055 in 2022. The median price jumped 18 percent, to $10,000 from $8,500. The buyback rate finished at 12 percent, compared to 10 percent last year, both outstanding figures.
The session-topping Global Campaign colt was purchased by Machmer Hall from the Fly By consignment as short yearlings powered the upper end of the marketplace. Overall, 11 of the sale's top 13 prices were yearlings.

Global Campaign, by Curlin, stands at WinStar Farm in Kentucky. The millionaire won the Grade 1 Woodward Handicap and two other graded stakes; he was third in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Classic. These are the first yearlings for the stallion, who is a half-brother to 2022's leading freshman sire Bolt d'Oro.
The session topper, a February foal, is out of the winning Henny Hughes mare Im a Dixie Diva, dam of one winners from two starters. Im a Dixie Diva is out of stakes winner Im a Dixie Girl, dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Mor Spirit.
