Global Access adds to strong hand for Trombetta, Weber

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Global Access spent the winter and spring as a workmate for his more heralded stablemate Win Win Win.
Global Access emerged from the shadow of his fellow 3-year-old with a neck victory in Saturday’s Grade 3 Saranac Stakes at Saratoga, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 88. It was his second graded win of the year. He also won the Grade 3 Marine Stakes at Woodbine in May.
“I was hard on him this spring, he was Win Win Win’s workmate, he’s been at it that long,” trainer Michael Trombetta said. “He’s won two graded races, he’s all right by us.”
Trombetta noted that Global Access is a half-brother to the graded stakes winner March to the Arch, who was scheduled to run in Monday’s Grade 2, $250,000 Bernard Baruch Handicap for trainer Mark Casse.
Global Access was scheduled to return to Maryland early this week, and he most likely will make his next start in the Grade 2, $400,000 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont on Oct. 5. The Hill Prince is run at 1 1/8 miles.
“I love the idea of the mile and an eighth for him,” Trombetta said.
Global Access and Win Win Win could give Trombetta and owner Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Plantation a nice 1-2 punch in the male turf division in 2020.
Win Win Win, who participated in both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, found a home on the turf when he won the Manila Stakes at Belmont in July 4, running a fast mile in 1:31.56.
The decision was made shortly thereafter to turn Win Win Win out for the remainder of the year and he will return next spring.
“If he takes the logical progression from 3 to 4 he could be as good as they get as a 4-year-old,” Trombetta said. “He’s got some dimensions I think we haven’t seen yet.”
