Glenville Gardens earns first career victory in Display

ETOBICOKE, Ontario—Lukewarm favorite Glenville Gardens went right to the front and kept on going to graduate in style in the $132,250 Display Stakes for 2-year-olds at Woodbine on Saturday.
With Luis Contreras aboard, Glenville Gardens set moderate fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route. Glenville Gardens, a son of Street Cry, opened up a clear lead on the far turn, and then coasted home on by 2 ¾ lengths over another promising maiden, Hollywood Critic. Sea to Sea rallied to finish another nose back in third in the five-horse field.
“He broke good, and I took the lead and set the pace I wanted,” said Contreras. “By the quarter pole, I had so much horse, he was gone.”
Glenville Gardens ($5) covered the distance in 1:45.45. He earned $75,000 for Melnyk Racing Stable and trainer Josie Carroll, who was winning the Display for the third time.
