Glengarry stamped himself as an Iowa-bred of significance Saturday night when he drew out to a 12 3/4-length win over Dawson’s Storm in the $100,000 Iowa Cradle at Prairie Meadows. The race was one of seven stakes on the Iowa Classic card that closed out the meet. Each of the races was worth $100,000 and restricted to horses bred in Iowa. Glengarry ($4.80) came into the Cradle off a 5 3/4-length maiden special weight victory in his career debut Aug. 28 at Prairie Meadows. He led at every point of call in the Cradle, increasing his advantage with each passing pole. Ken Tohill was aboard the son of Into Mischief for trainer Doug Anderson, who co-owns the horse with Toby Joseph and Aaron Kennedy. Derby winner pays $105 The 51-1 longshot Rockin the Dad Bod captured the Iowa Breeders’ Derby in a three-way photo, winning by a head over Succession, while it was another neck back in third to 3-5 favorite Wildatlanticstorm. Rockin the Dad Bod ($105) rallied from off the pace to get to Wildatlanticstorm, who had taken the lead through a half-mile in 46.95 seconds and continued to show the way through six furlongs in 1:11.72 and a mile in 1:38.07. Rockin the Dad Bod covered the 1 1/16 miles for 3-year-olds in 1:45.30. Alberto Pusac was aboard the winner, who is a son of Dads Caps. Esteban Martinez trains Rockin the Dad Bod for breeder Nick Metzen and Tamara Metzen. Sir Wally Wally takes Branstad Sir Wally Wally took it to them at the start in the Gov. Terry E. Branstad, leading throughout for a 2 3/4-length win over Finish Up. It was another four lengths back in third to Minecraft Maniac. Following the race, there was both a stewards inquiry into Finish Up and a claim of foul against the winner that was lodged by the rider of Time Goes On, who was prominent, encountered trouble into the first turn, and finished eighth. There ultimately was no change to the order of finish. The stewards looked at the start in which Finish Up reared and spotted the field a number of lengths and it was ruled he caused his own issue, the stewards announced. In the riders’ objection, the stewards announced the interference on the first turn did not affect the outcome of the race and the results were allowed to stand. Sir Wally Wally ($11.20) set fractions of 23.31 seconds for the opening quarter, 46.78 for the half-mile and 1:11.15 for six furlongs before winning the 1 1/16-mile race for 4-year-olds and up in 1:44.49. Armando Martinez was aboard for the son of Revolutionary for D and L Farms and trainer Kelly Martinez. Double for Roman Jockey Kevin Roman won back-to-back stakes on the card when he guided Fit and Famous to a neck victory in the Iowa Breeders’ Oaks and Won Happy Mama to a neck win in the Sorority. Fit and Famous ($28.20) led throughout to win over Lavender Lil, while covering the one mile and 70 yards for 3-year-old fillies in 1:43.28. Tanner Tracy trains the daughter of Fit Performer for Joel Hunsburger. Won Happy Mama ($17) also made every pole a winning one, leading throughout and holding off the late bid of Shezawildstorm. The winner covered six furlongs for 2-year-old fillies in 1:11.98.
