OZONE PARK, N.Y. – There have been 11 cards run thus far at the Belmont at the Big A meet and there has been a pick six carryover at the conclusion of five of them. That doesn’t include Sunday, when the pick six was not offered after racing officials moved four scheduled turf races to the dirt and canceled the Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes due to rain and rescheduled it for next Sunday. Thus, the $83,911 pick six carryover from last Saturday’s card will be offered when racing resumes on Thursday. A new month means a new post time as weekday cards will begin at 12:40 p.m. – 25 minutes earlier than in September. Thursday’s card consists of eight races meaning the pick six begins on race 3 [1:42 p.m. Eastern]. A favorable forecast should mean the resumption of turf racing on Thursday. Four of the six legs of the pick six sequence are scheduled for turf, including the $135,000 Gio Ponti Stakes for 3-year-olds going one mile on the inner turf. The rails are set at 27 feet, limiting field size on that course to 10. The rails on the outer turf course are down and field size is 12 on that course. Since Sept. 21, trainer Brad Cox has won with seven of 10 starters at Aqueduct, a run that includes two New York-bred stakes wins – Sacrosanct in the Bertram F. Bongard and Hush of a Storm in the Ashley T. Cole. Thursday, Cox sends out two runners at Aqueduct, including Take Me To Church in the Gio Ponti Stakes. In the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes, won by the Cox-trained West Hollywood, Take Me To Church was attempting an inside rally when he was bumped hard and turned sideways by a fallen The Big Torpedo at the sixteenth pole. Remarkably, Take Me To Church was not seriously injured, though his rider, Javier Castellano, suffered a fractured hand and missed five weeks of action. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports Contention runs deep in the Gio Ponti, including Donegal Momentum, Full Nelson, and Royal Majesty. Donegal Momentum, who showed promise on dirt, won a first-level allowance on turf by a nose at Saratoga on Aug. 24. The last-place finisher from that race, Cinder Block, came back to win a first-level allowance at Laurel Park on Sunday with a career-best 81 Beyer Speed Figure. Castellano was named to ride Donegal Momentum but will miss at least another week due to his hand injury. Flavien Prat is in line to pick up the mount provided Vesting, on whom Prat is named, doesn’t draw in from the also-eligible list. He needs one scratch. Royal Majesty, trained by Bill Mott, shortens up in distance after several tries going longer in races like the Belmont Derby and Saratoga Derby. His two career wins have come at 1 1/16 miles. Full Nelson, the Columbia Stakes winner at Tampa Bay Downs in March, is coming off a second to Carson’s Run in the Tale of the Cat Stakes at Monmouth Park on June 23. Carson’s Run came back to win the Saratoga Derby and finished second in the Nashville Derby. The Gio Ponti goes as race 7 and is the fifth leg of the pick six. Here’s a look at the other parts of the sequence: Race 3: This $16,000 claimer sees four-time stakes winner Barese and Giroovin both dropping from the $40,000 level. Ski Country was a well-beaten second last out at this level but won for $25,000 at Saratoga in August. Race 4: Mythical Man took money but did no running in an off-the-turf debut at Saratoga. He should get on the grass in this spot. Salvation was second in the same race in which Mythical Man ran. Max N Fifo gets blinkers for the stretch-out after a decent turf sprint debut. Race 5: A lot of runners in this starter allowance are making quick turnarounds, including Sassy Allie, who beat males for maiden $50,000 claiming last Thursday but is against fillies this Thursday. Reflexivity goes first off the William Morey claim for $40,000 out of a winning effort on Sept. 20. Morey is 9 for 35 the last three years first off the claim. Race 6: Before he runs Take Me To Church in the Gio Ponti, Cox sends out Dark Devil in this $50,000 maiden claimer. He has run three straight seconds, including a nose loss at this level here in June. Looks First returns from a five-month layoff since she finished third and was claimed by Linda Rice for $40,000. Rice also sends out Street View, third for $75,000 on Aug. 8 at Saratoga, a race from which the runner-up came back to win a maiden auction race Sunday at Churchill Downs. :: Subscribe to the DRF Post Time Email Newsletter: Get the news you need to play today's races!  Race 8: Pretty Liza got jostled pretty good down backside, was headstrong, and still ran on late to get beat a neck on debut. Trainer Rudy Rodriguez, 1 for 36 at the meet, is adding blinkers to Pretty Liza’s equipment. Tam I Am finished third in her debut, a race in which she appeared to be making a winning move in the stretch. The firster So Darn Pretty, trained by Brittany Russell, is by the Great Britain-bred Group 1-winning turfer Too Darn Hot and is a half sister to Irish-bred turf winner King’s Gamble. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
