Ginobili invited to Riyadh Dirt Sprint in Saudi Arabia

Barbara D. Livingston Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile runner-up Ginobili is a 5-year-old gelding and the rich purse of the Riyadh Dirt Sprint makes it an attractive option.

Ginobili, a Grade 2 winner in 2021 who was second in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar in November, has been invited to the $1.5 million Riyadh Dirt Sprint at King Abdulaziz Racetrack on Feb. 26 in Saudi Arabia, trainer Richard Baltas said.

The lucrative Group 3 race is run at six furlongs on the undercard of the $20 million Saudi Cup.

“There is a chance we will go,” Baltas said. “It’s a lot of money and he’s a gelding.”

Ginobili was sixth in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile on Dec. 4 at Aqueduct and resumed workouts in late December. Owned by the partnership of Slam Dunk Racing, Michael Nentwig, Jerry McClanahan, and Baltas, Ginobili won the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes at seven furlongs at Del Mar last August.

A 5-year-old, Ginobili has won 3 of 15 starts.
