Gimme Da Lute likely to miss Twilight Derby with foot injury
ARCADIA, Calif. – Gimme Da Lute, a winner of four consecutive stakes from April to August, will be nominated for the $200,000 Twilight Derby on turf next Saturday but is doubtful for the race due to a lingering foot issue.
On Friday, trainer Bob Baffert said Gimme Da Lute “is training but not working” and has been fitted with a plate on a foot to aid recovery from a foot injury that kept him from a start last month in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing. Baffert said Gimme Da Lute stepped on a nail in a September workout.
Baffert said Gimme Da Lute was nominated for the Twilight Derby in the event the race is switched to the main track. Baffert said he does not have any other race plans for Gimme Da Lute.
Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman, Gimme Da Lute has won 6 of 9 starts and earned $627,560. He won the El Cajon Stakes for 3-year-olds on Aug. 29 at Del Mar in his most recent start.
