Gierkink's review: Speed effective on nine-race card
Power outage
The power went out from the third through sixth races, but the show went on with backup power. Despite the problems, the overall handle was a healthy $3.2 million.
Speed was effective on the nine-race card, during which only three closers found the mark. However, it seemed far from being a strong bias because several frontrunners benefited from a slow pace.
Money in the bank
Run to the Bank ($9.90) rallied wide from the back of the pack to take the seven-furlong feature, a third-level optional claimer, over favored Pender Harbour. Dynamic Sky found traffic in the stretch and was steadied before finishing four lengths back in fifth in his second start after a long layoff. It was the eighth career victory for the little 6-year-old gelding Run to the Bank, who is owned and trained by Nick Nosowenko.
Jackpot Hi 5 carryovers
Nobody won the Jackpot Hi 5 after longshots wreaked havoc in the ninth race. The carryover is $99,000 for Saturday’s nightcap. On the harness side, there’s a mandatory payout Saturday night for the Jackpot Hi 5 at Woodbine, for which the pot is expected to exceed $800,000.
