Gierkink's preview: Pair of grass races Wednesday evening
Wednesday, June 4 preview
Two turf races scheduled
The temporary rail on the turf has been moved out to lane 5 for this week. Following some rain on Monday, the course should be a little kinder than it was last weekend, when speed was effective.
In the third race, Any Given Royal is dropping from second-level allowance/optional claiming company to this $40,000 combo race. He could be viewed as a standout in the one-mile event in his third start off the shelf. Luis Contreras will ride him for trainer Brian Lynch, a successful tandem.
Lighthouse Sound is a juicy 6-1 morning line in the fourth, but will likely be shorter in the one-mile route for $40,000 claimers. He did his best running last year in June, when he found the mark twice under Emma-Jayne Wilson. He checked in fourth in his lone outing this year, which came in March at Gulfstream for trainer Lorne Richards.
Saturdayatbernies will be scratched from the fourth because he was entered back in a $40,000 Polytrack contest on Friday.
