Gierkink's preview: No stakes on lackluster card
There is no stakes on the lackluster nine-race card, which will conclude with an excellent Ontario-sired allowance sprint. The Bob Tiller trainees Sweater Weather and She Ain’t Bad merit top billing, but don’t expect to get the 8-1 morning line quote on Sweater Weather, who is well regarded by the Canadian hall-of-famer.
She Ain’t Bad, the 3-1 morning line choice, has been idle since finishing a close second in a Nov. 30 maiden special to Splashy Gizmo, who came back to just miss in the Ontario Lassie Stakes.
Splashy Gizmo makes her season debut in the sixth, in which she will tackle older opposition in the non-winners of three Ontario-sired allowance sprint. It is her launch pad toward the June 15 Woodbine Oaks. Her work tab is light, and she might need one, but owner-trainer Nick Nosowenko’s layoff runners have been deadly during the early weeks of the meet.
First-timers worth noting are Catch Some Zs in the second and 4-year-old Constantino, who faces mainly 3-year-olds in the fifth.
Red Fever could be used as a Pick 4 single off a game second to next-out allowance winner Marten Lake.
