Gierkink's preview: Campbell starts three-day vacation
Friday, April 25 preview
Jesse Campbell begins a three-day suspension, which runs through Sunday. Among the mounts he will miss out on is Cristina’s Halo in the fourth race today. She romped against maidens off an extended layoff April 12, but is a bounce candidate today while competing on short rest in a seven-furlong Ontario-sired allowance.
Queen’s Plate nominees Money Talks and Man Cave will face older opposition in the featured eighth, a seven-furlong sprint which combines Ontario-sired non-winners-of-three allowance stock with $40,000 non-winners-of-three claimers. Both are starting for the first time since early December.
Money Talks, who was a vet scratch April 13 because he was coughing, was a commanding winner of a Dec. 7 allowance route, putting up a 71 Beyer.
Man Cave won two consecutive mile and 70-yard Ontario-sired events in the fall, and ran against the bias when a wide sixth over an inside-favoring track in the Dec. 8 Display, an open stakes. Patrick Husbands subs for Campbell on the Ashlee Brnjas trainee.
The fourth-race pick four guarantee is $50,000. The second pick four, which doesn’t have a guarantee, begins on the sixth race.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover for the ninth and final race is $24,646. Red Shot is dropping to an inviting spot in that $8,000 claimer.
