Gierkink: Woodbine pick four play for Saturday, June 8, 2019
The late Pick 4 at Woodbine on Saturday, the best one of the meet so far, starts on the eighth race, the nine-furlong Plate Trial Stakes, which has a vulnerable favorite in Federal Law.
He turned back off two dull routes to win the seven-furlong Queenston Stakes three weeks ago. I’m siding with the second and third choices on the line, Queenston third-place finisher Dun Drum (5), and Jammin Still (8), who has worked nicely since finishing a troubled second in an allowance.
The ninth, the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks, is wide open. The 10-horse field of sophomore fillies can be pared down to Preferred Guest (3), Speedy Soul (5), Artilena (6), Intanga Rose (7), Hastalavistababy (8), and Bold Script (9).
The 10th is a $95,000 maiden special weight turf route for Ontario-bred 3-year-olds who passed through any sales ring at public auction. Maryland-based Into Temptation (12), a well-bred $850,000 Saratoga yearling, had no pace to chase last time when a closing second at Monmouth for the up-and-coming trainer Arnaud Delacour.
Going six deep in the nightcap, a contentious non-winners of two turf route: It’s Fate (6), Candy Crushem (8), Suitedconnected (11), Bala Falls (12), Sharp Brew (13), and Desolator (14).
Pick 4: 5, 8/3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9/12/6, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14
