Gierkink: Woodbine horses to watch for week of Aug. 15
FINANCIAL RECOVERY
Trainer: Brian Lynch
Last race: Aug. 13, 8th
Finish: 4th by 1 3/4
Beyer: 56
This first-time starter was bet down to favoritism on yielding turf in the restricted Shady Well Stakes, in which she rallied from sixth to find traffic in deep stretch. The daughter of Street Cry is bred to run long.
TULSA
Trainer: Mike Mattine
Last race: Aug. 13, 2nd
Finish: 4th by 11
Beyer: 39
After missing the break from the No. 1 hole in her debut, she went wide on the turn and continued to run greenly as the 4-5 favorite. She had worked encouragingly prior to that disappointing run and should be better for the experience.
SILVER RING
Trainer: Sid Attard
Last race: Aug. 12, 5th
Finish: 3rd by 3 1/4
Beyer: 32
After getting away slowly, she closed belatedly from sixth before galloping out strongly in her five-furlong debut vs. Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies. The Martin Cherry homebred seems capable of putting it all together in a longer sprint.
