Gierkink: How I'll play the Queen's Plate card Sunday

The late pick four on the fabulous 13-race Queen’s Plate card commences with the $1 million Plate. It has a guaranteed pool of $300,000.

I love the two fillies in the Plate – Woodbine Oaks winner HOLY HELENA (3) and INFLEXIBILITY (5), who was a troubled third as the favorite in the nine-furlong Oaks. I’ll key the former on my $1 pick-four ticket, and my 20-cent backup ticket will key the latter.

JUPITER’S EAGLE (11), who just missed at 16-1 in her last race, gets the nod in the 11th over HAILEY’S PRIZE (5), who’s been second in seven of her eight outings. If not for a rough trip, “Hailey” probably would have won her last race on the grass, which she lost by a nose. She was a late scratch June 16 because she was medicated by accident.

The 12th race, the Charlie Barley Stakes, probably can be pared down to Saratoga shipper MADE YOU LOOK (2), CONQUEST LEMONRAID (3), CITY BOY (4) and front-runner YORKTON (8).

Using the all button in race 13, a wide-open maiden sprint with a 14-horse field.
