Gierkink: Gulfstream Park early pick five for Sunday, March 3, 2019
The weather forecast is for another beautiful Sunday in South Florida. I’m going to launch the early pick five with back-to-back viable singles so that I can hit the beach by midafternoon if things go awry early with the ticket.
INDYGITA (2) is taking a noteworthy drop in the opener, going from optional-starter company to $16,000 after being a fringe player in first-level allowance company. Jose Ortiz is the perfect pilot to make the most of her tactical speed in this one-mile turf tilt.
The second is chock-full of professional maidens with little ability. GARDENCITY GAMBLER (1) is plunging from maiden special company following a sabbatical, after getting a positive trainer change to Robert Falcone Jr. She recently got a B- on the DRF Clocker Report and should beat this $12,500 group if she’s anywhere ready.
The third race, a $12,500 maiden sprint, can be pared down to the droppers GRACIE’S DREAM (1) and MICHIGAN MISS (6), along with the improving MAMA LELA (5) and BALLY SQUALL (7). The latter is debuting off the Sano claim, a high-percentage angle.
There are several promising second-timers in the fourth, a one-mile maiden special. HIGHTAILING (6) and KIMBERLY FRANCES (4) ran two-three behind the favorite when traveling seven-eighths in the slop Jan. 27. ELEGANT ROSE (1) is making her second start off a $50,000 claim by leading trainer Navarro after nearly winning a longer maiden special Feb. 9.
Going five-deep in the fifth with LIQUID ALOHA (1), THREEOHTWOCASSIE (2), BOW TIE AFFAIR (5), GIVE TO U.K. CATS (6), and ROMPIN REID (7).
Pick five (races 1-5): 2 / 1 / 1,5,6,7 / 1,4,6 / 1,2,5,6,7
