Giant Gizmo’s first winner comes in Clarendon Stakes

Freshman sire Giant Gizmo achieved the rare feat of having his first winner come in a stakes race when Spin the King prevailed in a dramatic stretch run in the Clarendon Stakes on July 7 at Woodbine.

The 2-year-old colt broke his maiden by a nose in his second start, completing the 5 ½ furlong race in 1:04.76 over Woodbine’s all-weather Polytrack surface for owner J. M. Stritzl Stable and trainer Brian Lynch. Bred in Ontario by Paradox Farm, Spin the King is out of winning Bold Executive mare Muriel, who is the dam of eight winners from 11 foals to race, including multiple Canadian stakes winner London Snow.

Giant Gizmo, a 9-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway, stands at Adena Springs Canada in Aurora, Ontario for an advertised fee of $3,780 ($4,000 Canadian). His debut crop consists of 44 juveniles.

An imposing miler, Giant Gizmo raced for his breeder, Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs and Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel. He won six of 11 lifetime starts for earnings of $508,685, highlighted by wins in the Grade 3 Lone Star Park Handicap and Alysheba Stakes.

Kentucky-bred Giant Gizmo is out of multiple stakes-wining Hansel mare Golden Antigua, who has produced six winners from seven starts, including French Group 2 winner Tableaux and stakes-placed winner Slick Pardoned Me.
