Ghostzapper arrives at Adena

Ghostzapper, the reigning Horse of the Year, arrived at Adena Springs Farm in Lexington, Ky., on Thursday afternoon in high spirits.

A 5-year-old Awesome Again colt, Ghostzapper was retired earlier this week because of a fractured sesamoid. He stepped off a van and proceeded to rear and play on the end of Adena stallion manager Bill Drury's lead shank.

Drury said Ghostzapper would spend the next couple of weeks being hand-walked and hand-grazed until he starts to settle into life at the breeding farm. Drury also said a veterinarian will keep tabs on the sesamoid injury, and the farm will not turn the colt out before he is ready.

"With a horse of this caliber," Drury said, "you want to take your time with him."

Ghostzapper will stand at Adena Springs beginning in 2006.
