Ghostly Presence does the expected in Jammed Lovely Stakes
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Ghostly Presence justified her favoritism with a 1 3/4-length score over Mythical Mission in Saturday’s $125,000 Jammed Lovely Stakes at Woodbine.
Over a Tapeta surface that favored outside closers, Ghostly Presence rated kindly toward the rear of the field while wide in the seven-furlong sprint. Rafael Hernandez had her tracking Mythical Mission as they both reached contention midway on the turn, and Ghostly Presence assumed command in the stretch and won in 1:23.98.
Crumlin Queen finished third, a head behind the runner-up and a nose in front Dilly Dally Darby. Greek Justice outran pacemaker Green Freedom for fifth in the six-horse field of Ontario-bred 3-year-old fillies.
Ghostly Presence ($3.80) was mired in a slump until Sept. 2, when she won an optional claimer and then suffered back-to-back narrow losses in stakes. The Jammed Lovely was her first stakes triumph since the Princess Elizabeth last November, and she earned $75,000 for Chiefswood Stable.
“She was never doing well,” said trainer Roger Attfield. “She didn’t look well. She was too light. Her color was bad. She wasn’t training very well, but she was healthy. We just had to be patient with her, and she suddenly turned the corner, and she’s been good from the middle of summer on. I loved her going into this race today.”
