Get the Sensation will try to prove she’s more than a short-sprint specialist when she races around two turns for the first time Saturday night in the $50,000 Sylvia Bishop Memorial Stakes at Charles Town.
The seven-furlong race for West Virginia-bred 3-year-old fillies is the local prep for the $60,000 West Virginia Division of Tourism Stakes on the West Virginia Breeders Classic program Oct. 10.
Get the Sensation reeled off four consecutive victories between early January and mid-May – all going 4 1/2 furlongs. Following a freshening of nearly two months, she flashed early speed and faded against open company in the six-furlong Miss Woodford at Monmouth Park.
Candy Man’s Girl has proven form going two turns locally, with all three of her career victories coming between 6 1/2 and seven furlongs. She prevailed by three-quarters of a length July 30 when making her first start since May.
Nay’s Back pressed the pace set by Candy Man’s Girl before weakening in deep stretch while making her first start in two months. She’s one of only three fillies in the field with a win going seven furlongs.
Cedar’sgreatnotion ran well in her first two career starts last fall but was dull in her season debut. The fact that trainer Tim Grams brings her back a week later for her stakes debut is a positive sign.
