Get Rhythm will try to pair stakes wins in Fanfreluche

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Get Rhythm rallied nicely to record her first stakes victory in the Ontario Debutante Stakes on Aug. 9, and she will be looking to double up in Sunday’s $150,000 Fanfreluche Stakes, a six-furlong sprint at Woodbine for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Get Rhythm rebounded in the Ontario Debutante after fading in the final furlong of her stakes debut in the Shady Well Stakes on July 12. Trainer Catherine Day Phillips said a change of tactics in the Ontario Debutante worked to Get Rhythm’s benefit.
“She was maybe a little over-keen [in the Shady Well],” she said. “She got caught up in the pace in that race, and I think wasted too much energy. When we settled her a little more in her next start, she sat off the pace nicely and finished much better.”
With no immediate sprint stakes options available to 2-year-old fillies after the Ontario Debutante, Day Phillips opted to give Get Rhythm a two-week break at the farm before training her up to this race.
Day Phillips said she’s been pleased with the way Get Rhythm has been training coming into the Fanfreluche. Get Rhythm had a four-furlong gate work in 50 seconds on Oct. 17.
“She had a very good breeze from the gate,” she said. “I was very happy with that, so from there, we’re thumbs up.”
