ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Horses have been doubling up with regularity and the track has been biased toward the inside during the early days of the Woodbine meet. Get Out the Vote in Friday’s fourth race fits the aforementioned trends and could be regarded as a single in the lone pick four on the sparse seven-race card. A 5-year-old mare by the late More Than Ready, Get Out the Vote was campaigned sporadically before joining trainer Eric Raghunath’s string this year. She finished a distant third behind a runaway winner off a 5 1/2-month layoff on opening day April 26. In a five-furlong dash for $10,000 maidens on May 10, journeyman Kirk Johnson put Get Out the Vote on the point and she rode a golden rail in a five-length tally while getting a 61 Beyer Speed Figure. On Friday, in a light field of $7,500 claimers who have not won two races, Get Out the Vote could shake loose on the inside without much other speed and go all the way in the six-furlong sprint. The fifth race, a six-furlong event for $15,000 females who have not won three races, includes the dropping favorite Vandoo and the improving Souper Cop. Vandoo was stakes-placed twice in restricted company two years ago at 2 before going winless in five starts last year. After nearly beating $25,000 conditioned claimers on Oct. 11, she was a well-beaten favorite in her last two outings, after which she got the winter off. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! The meet’s leading rider, apprentice Pietro Moran, has the mount on Vandoo for leading trainer Kevin Attard, who has impressive numbers with layoff runners. They are a combined 7 for 13 at the meet. Souper Cop defeated non-two opponents last September before tailing off. She bottomed out against $7,500 conditioned rivals in her May 10 season opener, despite running a deceptively good second behind the front-running favorite after a wide trip when the rail was the place to be. Souper Cop retains jockey Juan Crawford in his debut for trainer Anthony Adamo, who’s won at a whopping 42 percent clip off a claim during the past five years, with a return on investment of $1.99. Most of those runners were at Fort Erie. The sixth race, an optional-claiming starter allowance at 1 1/16 miles, can probably be pared down to the three winter-raced runners: Sunrise Drive, Swan Lake, and Elusive Knight. Sunrise Drive had a productive winter-spring campaign on the dirt at Oaklawn Park, culminating with a fourth-place finish in a 1 3/4-mile starter allowance. He has a solid record over 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta at Woodbine. Swan Lake and Elusive Knight have both been freshened since subpar performances in the same $10,000 claiming race at Gulfstream Park on March 8. The anchor leg of the pick four, the seventh race, is headed by Royal Quality, who is coming off a close second in another $15,000 non-three sprint. Other contenders include Adelaide Court, Dissectologist, and Jmr Speedy Escape. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
