NYRA/Adam Coglianese Get Jets wins the Sleepy Hollow Stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Rallying with a determined run, Get Jets kicked in the afterburners through the stretch to soar past Fish Trappe Road in Saturday’s $250,000 Sleepy Hollow Stakes.

Dispatched as a clear favorite in the field of nine juvenile New York-breds, Get Jets ($4.10) settled on the outside in the middle of the pack down the backstretch as Fish Trappe Road bounded out to the lead.

Fish Trappe Road set solid fractions of 23.09 seconds, 46.13, and 1:10.53 while pressed first by Spin Cycle and then by second choice Sudden Surprise. He settled into the stretch with a clear lead.

Get Jets began picking up steam four wide at the quarter pole beneath Irad Ortiz Jr. and took off down the lane to catch Fish Trappe Road nearing the sixteenth pole and edge clear late. Fish Trappe Road, who was bet late from 11-1 and went off as the co-third choice at 6-1, held well despite drifting out through the final furlong and easily saved the place spot over Governor Malibu as Sudden Surprise faded to fourth.

“I broke out of there, and he put me in a good spot,” said Ortiz. “He was great. He started picking up horses around the three-eighths pole. He was going well. He was a little clear. That’s just how the race came up, so I got it done that way. He’s a baby. He’s only had two races, but Tony [Dutrow] has done a great job with him.”

Get Jets, a $300,000 purchase at the OBS April sale, ran one mile in 1:36.21 on a fast main track. The Scat Daddy colt earned $150,000 for his second win in three starts. His lone defeat was a second-place finish in the Bertram F. Bongard.

“His pedigree says he’d stretch out, and to watch him stretch out today was very gratifying and hopeful for his upcoming 3-year-old year,” said Dutrow. “He got some pace today. He didn’t last time. I have to be very happy with today’s performance and the way he finished up.”
