Get Happy Mister stays perfect at Arapahoe
Get Happy Mister improved his Arapahoe Park record to 8 for 8 on Sunday, when he won in a rare start at two turns in the $40,000 Mount Elbert. Get Happy Mister drew clear by 5 1/2 lengths over Magical Twist, while it was another 3 1/4 lengths back in third to Wally Van.
Get Happy Mister was winning his fourth straight race in the Mount Elbert, a 1 1/16-mile stakes for 3-year-olds and up bred in Colorado. The horse’s streak at Arapahoe dates back to his 2-year-old season in 2012, when he won all four of his races at the track by a combined margin of 31 1/4 lengths.
Get Happy Mister ($2.80) on Sunday dueled in the early stages through an opening quarter of a mile in 24.28 seconds and a half-mile in 48.11. He then moved clear through six furlongs in 1:12.04 and went on to cover the distance on a track rated fast in 1:43.84.
Mike Ziegler rode Get Happy Mister for Annette Bishop and trainer Butch Gleason.
Gleason said last week that a long-range goal for Get Happy Mister is next month’s $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic, which is one of the track’s richest races. It will be run at 1 1/8 miles on Aug. 16.
Get Happy Mister earned $26,245 for the win Sunday, his seventh in a stakes. Overall, he has won 9 of 12 starts and $264,928. Get Happy Mister is a 4-year-old by First Samurai and he was bred by Willard Burbach.
