Geroux remains hospitalized, no timeline for return

Florent Geroux remains hospitalized after sustaining significant injuries in a Sept. 10 fall in a Churchill Downs race but is in stable condition and in “good spirits,” his agent, Matt Nakatani, said.

Natakani released an update on Geroux’s condition Monday night following a series of scans performed over the weekend at University of Louisville Hospital. Geroux, remains in the intensive-care unit, broke several ribs, and, Nakatani’s statement said, “is still being monitored for any internal injuries. We are hoping he can return home in the coming days.”

Geroux, who is out of action indefinitely, Natakani said last week, was injured when his mount, Flip Flop Freak, fell during a 2-year-old maiden sprint race. Flip Flop Freak subsequently was euthanized.

Geroux had been named to ride the 2-year-old colt Salahudin, who won the Grade 3 Iroquois on Saturday with Jose Ortiz picking up the mount for trainer Bob Baffert and Zedan Racing.
