George Washington injured

Alan Shuback|May 30, 2006

George Washington has emerged from his second-place finish in last Saturday's Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh with pulled muscles above his hip. The injury, discovered on Tuesday, puts in jeopardy his participation in the St. James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20, when he was expected to challenge his Curragh conqueror, Araafa.

All plans for George Washington, the European champion juvenile and Newmarket 2000 Guineas winner, have been shelved for the time being.

Meanwhile, George Washington's trainer, Aidan O'Brien, had more bad news when it was discovered that his Grand Prix de Paris and St. Leger winner Scorpion had sustained a hairline fracture to a pastern and will be out of action until fall.
