ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Genius of Love has been knocking on the door at the nonwinners-of-three class and could finally clear the condition when traveling 6 1/2 furlongs on the Tapeta in Thursday’s sixth race at Woodbine. The $25,000 claiming race lured five other fillies and mares for what’s a pivotal event on the seven-race program. The race rounds out the pick five and is the third leg of the lone pick four on the twilight card. Trained by Robert Tiller for owner-breeder Frank Di Giulio Jr., Genius of Love won 2 of 8 starts last year, including a nonwinners-of-two contest in her season finale. Genius of Love has just a pair of seconds to her credit from five outings this year, both of those runner-up placings were at this level on different surfaces. She got a career-high 66 Beyer Speed Figure two starts ago when a wide fifth on the grass versus Ontario-sired and $40,000 opponents. When descending to this level over speed-favoring Tapeta on Aug. 30, Genius of Love came from fifth to fill out the exacta behind a sharp Takemybourbonneat who subsequently won a restricted stakes at Fort Erie in her debut off a claim. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! The apprentice won aboard two of her last three Woodbine mounts. Saratoga Holiday, World Showcase, Red Samurai, Rocket Riley, and Catch the Drift complete the field. Saratoga Holiday earned the highest last-out Beyer in the field, a 71, when beating $25,000 nonwinners of two after awaiting room on the turn. Her previous form against Ontario-sired allowance foes was spotty, and she would certainly be dangerous on a repeat of that last one. Fraser Aebly will ride Saratoga Holiday again for trainer Mike DePaulo. They are a combined 3 for 17 at the meet, and DePaulo has decent numbers with horses exiting a victory. World Showcase shook loose up front before fading late to third in a recent seven-furlong sprint at this level that was moved from turf to the Tapeta. She defeated nonwinners-of-two opponents three starts back on the main turf and found five-eighths on the inner course too short when a troubled fifth in her penultimate race. Red Samurai had a productive 2024 campaign, during which she banked more than $100,000, but this season has been a bust so far. The cantankerous 4-year-old finished sixth in both of her outings, most recently as the 9-5 second choice when dropping to this level off a layoff Sept. 4. Rocket Riley was entered with bar shoes for her first start since May 3, when she prevailed in a $25,000 nonwinner-of-two claiming race with a 67 Beyer under Daisuke Fukumoto. Catch the Drift led all the way in an Aug. 15 inner turf event over 7 1/2 furlongs against $25,000 nonwinners-of-two types. Her new trainer, Mike Mattine, won at an 18 percent clip off a claim during the past five years, with a return on investment of $1.35. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
