Reigning Ohio-bred horse of the year Generous Lover looks to bounce back from defeats against quality foes in Thursday’s $75,000 Michael G. Mackey Memorial Angenora Stakes, which has drawn a field of six Ohio-bred fillies and mares sprinting at Thistledown. Generous Lover, the runaway winner of the Best of Ohio Distaff to lock down her championship last year, has won once from five starts this year, competing against both statebreds and open company. The victory came in the Vivacious Stakes in July. Prior to that, she was second by four lengths to the undefeated Silent Rule in the Diana. Most recently, in the Best of Ohio Pay the Man, she led early before finishing second by 6 1/4 lengths to Candlelight Hours.  Candlelight Hours, a multiple Ohio-bred champion herself, is also entered in the Angenora, seeking her eighth career stakes win. Those scores include the 2021 Best of Ohio John Galbreath, earning her honors as outstanding Ohio-bred 2-year-old filly; and the 2023 Distaff, locking down the champion older female title.
