Geaux Mets much the best in Ontario County

The $50,000 Ontario County Stakes at Finger Lakes was bet like a two-horse race, which it was. It just turned out that one of the horses was far superior to the other.
Geaux Mets drew away in the stretch at will under jockey Jaime Rodriguez to win the six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old New York-breds by 12 1/2 lengths as the even-money favorite. The Rhythmisright, the 8-5 second choice, was second best, finishing 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Lady’s Smart Alec.
The top two are conditioned by downstate horsemen. Geaux Mets is trained by David Jacobson and The Rhythmisright races for Mike Hushion.
Carolinian set the pace while being pressed by The Rhythmisright through an opening quarter of 21.96 seconds. Geaux Mets moved up into second on the turn and was challenging Carolinian as the half went in 45.16 seconds. From there on in it was no contest as Geaux Mets left his six rivals far behind. Carolinian tired to finish fifth.
Geaux Mets was timed in 1:09.84 and paid $4.10.The win was the fifth in 10 starts for Geaux Mets, who won a restricted $40,000 claiming race at Monmouth Park in his prior start on June 21.
