Gamble's Ghost up in time to win Trillium Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Gamble’s Ghost rallied from the back of the pack to capture Sunday’s Grade 3 Trillium, giving jockey Eurico Da Silva a sweep of the weekend stakes at Woodbine.
Gamble’s Ghost saved ground while about five lengths in arrears on the backstretch as My Arch Enemy set honest fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route. Gamble’s Ghost commenced a wide bid inside the quarter pole and hit the front with a sixteenth left before scoring by a half-length in 1:43.61.
Ickymasho caught My Arch Enemy for second. The favored 3-year-old Miss Mo Mentum never reached contention after getting wiped out at the break and beat just one in the eight-horse field.
“We had a wonderful trip,” said Da Silva, who won Saturday’s Steady Growth Stakes on Mr Havercamp. “I was able to save a lot of ground. When he turned for home, I had a chance to shift her out. She kicked so strong from there. She’s a wonderful horse to ride – easy, a very kind horse.”
Gamble’s Ghost ($9.30) was exiting a belated third over a speed-favoring track in her season opener in the allowance prep for the Trillium.
“She’s so special,” said trainer Josie Carroll. “She shows up every time. She ran hard against a speed bias last time and didn’t quite get there. She’s just a good horse.”
A 5-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper, Gamble’s Ghost earned $90,000 of the $140,000 purse for owner and breeder Ivan Dalos.
