Gamble's Ghost to stay local and target Princess Elizabeth

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes winner Gamble’s Ghost will not run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Keeneland and instead will point toward the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Woodbine, trainer Josie Carroll said. The Princess Elizabeth Stakes is restricted to Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies and will be run over 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack on Nov. 1.
Gamble’s Ghost has been one of several impressive 2-year-olds from the Carroll barn this season. She debuted with an 8 1/4-length victory over seven furlongs on Polytrack on Aug. 14. From there, she went straight into stakes company and ran second behind Catch a Glimpse in the Grade 2 Natalma on turf Sept. 12 before winning the Mazarine over 1 1/16 miles on Oct. 4.
Carroll said Gamble’s Ghost has come out of the Mazarine in good order. She recorded her first breeze since that race here Saturday, covering four furlongs in 49.20 seconds on the main track.
“She’s been good,” Carroll said. “She had an easy work [on Saturday]. She had an easy half-mile.”
Carroll said Gamble’s Ghost likely will breeze five furlongs here this weekend in her final work for the race.
