Galileo may go in King George

Alan Shuback|Jul 09, 2001

Aidan O'Brien said on Monday that Galileo is "definitely a possible" for the 1 1/2-mile King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot on July 28.

The overpowering winner of both the Epsom and Irish derbies, Galileo would be confronting Europe's best older horse, Fantastic Light, as well as French Derby winner Anabaa Blue if he runs in the King George.

He would also be attempting to match the 1991 feat of Generous, the only horse to pull off the Epsom/Irish/King George triple.

But the phrasing of O'Brien's statement suggests that Galileo's presence at Ascot is uncertain. His main goals remain the Irish Champion Stakes on Sept. 8, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Sept. 29, and the Breeders' Cup Classic on Oct. 27.
