Galiana remains perfect on Delaware's dirt by winning Dashing Beauty
Galiana always runs well at Delaware Park, but she displayed new tactics Thursday to win the $58,000 Dashing Beauty Stakes for fillies and mares.
Breaking sharply from post 3 under substitute rider Ricardo Chiappe, Galiana ($17.80) turned back an early challenge from the Todd Pletcher-trained Crazy About Me and cruised to a two--length victory over sloppy going in the six-furlong overnight stakes.
Owned and trained by Rodolfo Romero, the 4-year-old Galiana is now 4 for 4 on Delaware’s main track. All of her previous victories came from a stalking position, including a win in last fall’s Tax Free Distaff for Delaware-certified females.
In winning for the seventh time in 11 starts, Galiana ran the distance in 1:10.92.
She’s Ordained, who raced prominently in third on the outside throughout, finished second by a neck. Ms. Cruisen, a 25-1 outsider ridden by 62-year-old Tony Black, rallied to finish third. Geeky Gorgeous, making her first start of 2014 after closing her 2013 campaign with three straight stakes wins, was fourth as the 7-5 favorite.
