Galaxina has just enough in the tank to win New York Oaks.

Favored Galaxina survived a stretch duel with Eros’s Girl and an inquiry and a claim of foul from the rider of the latter to win the $75,000 New York Oaks on Monday at Finger Lakes.
Galaxina ($4.60) shipped in from Saratoga for trainer James Bond, a native of nearby Rochester who began his training career at Finger Lakes. The filly had previously won the Park Avenue division of the New York Stallion Stakes Series at Aqueduct. She finished eighth with excuses in the Cupecoy’s Joy division of the series while trying turf.
Moving back to the main track and trying two turns for the first time, Galaxina broke well from the inside post under Dylan Davis and tracked pacesetter Silent Invasion in second. Eros’s Girl, winner of the Niagara Stakes sprinting earlier this month at Finger Lakes, was behind them in third through a moderate opening six furlongs in 1:13.98.
Galaxina challenged the fading Silent Invasion around the far turn, and poked her head in front into the stretch. But Eros’s Girl had moved in tandem, and the two were on near even terms in the lane.

The two fillies bumped near the eighth pole before Galaxina edged clear in the final stages to win by three-quarters of a length. It was a tight finish, as a furiously rallying Curly Girl was just a head back in third, besting Shesascoldasice by a half-length.
Kevin Navarro, aboard the runner-up, lodged a claim of foul against the winner, but the order stood.
The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:49.68
